TIGERS 45 EDINBURGH 45

Thursday August 23, 2018
SHEFFIELD rounded off their home league campaign with a thrilling 45-45 draw against Edinburgh.

No more than four points separated the two sides all meeting in what turned out to be one of the contests of the season.

Three times the visitors registered a maximum heat result, only for the Tigers to respond instantly with a 5-1 of their own in the very next race.

Two of which came from top duo Charles Wright and Kyle Howarth in Heats 13 and 15 to earn a hard fought league point.

And with the fixture rescued by track staff following a late unexpected downpour before scheduled start time, Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates was quick to praise everyone involved.

“First and foremost I think it’s important to thank the supporters who came tonight for their patience and understanding,” Bates said.

“That rain beforehand was unexpected to say the least and it gave us a real dilemma because the track had some real problems.

“But there were a lot of people in the stadium already and while it didn’t look too good at one stage, we decided to try some track work.

“And that’s where I have to take my hat off to Graham Trollope (track curator) and his team; they didn’t just produce a rideable surface, they produced what turned out to be great racetrack in the end and the job they did just to get that meeting on was fantastic.

“As for the meeting itself, I think a draw was a fair result overall.

“It was a shame we couldn’t get the win we ideally wanted, but it was nice to finish off with a much more positive result.

“The team battled hard tonight and credit to them for that - we’ve got a few away meetings to come and then it’s time to get ready for the Championship Riders’ Individual at Sheffield on September 2.”

SHEFFIELD 45: Kyle Howarth 13+1, Charles Wright 10+3, Todd Kurtz 7+1, Kasper Andersen 6+2, James Shanes 4, Connor Mountain 3, Broc Nicol 2.
