PETERBOROUGH v TIGERS, PREVIEW

Saturday July 14, 2018
SHEFFIELD’s tough away schedule continues when they travel to league leaders Peterborough on Sunday (5pm).

But Tigers head to the East of England Arena in decent spirits following a battling performance at Lakeside on Friday.

They may not have secured any league points from their 51-39 defeat, but their 12-point loss was the closest anybody has got to the Hammers at Purfleet in this year’s Championship.

And while Peterborough are flying high, winning eight of their last nine, Tigers co-promoter Damien Bates says there’s no reason why his side can’t come away from Alwalton with something to show for their efforts.

“The team were unlucky at Lakeside on Friday and even though we only won three races, I thought we deserved something out of the meeting,” Bates said.

“It was great to have Kyle (Howarth) back in the team after missing the last few meetings and Broc (Nicol) rode brilliantly again.

“If Charles (Wright) hadn’t have had a rare bad day at the office then we’d have easily come away with something - but that’s speedway.

“We need to go to Peterborough and do our best against a very strong team.

“They’re not top of the table for no reason but teams have gone there this season and got something.

“So hopefully everyone can chip in and we can add a point or more to our league total.”

Ty Proctor deputises in place of Lasse Bjerre (concussion) while Redcar’s Australian talent Jordan Stewart comes in at reserve for the Tigers in place of James Shanes who is away on Longtrack commitments.

Meanwhile Peterborough have booked Jake Allen as a guest for skipper Ulrich Ostergaard who crashed out of their win over Scunthorpe on Friday.

Supporters are reminded that Sunday’s meeting is now a single fixture with Peterborough’s other scheduled meeting against Lakeside pushed back until later in the year.

PETERBOROUGH: Scott Nicholls, Simon Lambert, Bradley Wilson-Dean, Michael Palm Toft, Jake Allen, Emil Grondal, Tom Bacon.
SHEFFIELD: Kyle Howarth, Todd Kurtz, Ty Proctor, Broc Nicol, Charles Wright, Georgie Wood, Jordan Stewart.
