WRIGHT RULED OUT AT SCUNTHORPE

Friday June 29, 2018
SHEFFIELD will be without Charles Wright for their Knockout Cup trip to Scunthorpe tonight (Friday, 7.30).

The Tigers heat-leader crashed heavily during Thursday’s first leg at Owlerton from which they established a 12-point advantage following a 51-39 win over their rivals.

Ty Proctor, who guested on Thursday and scored 8+2, will again deputise for the Tigers with Glasgow man Richie Worrall standing in for injured skipper Kyle Howarth.

And despite being without two of their top riders, team boss Simon Stead remains in high spirits ahead of their Quarter-Final decider following what he called an encouraging first leg.

“It was a good solid win for us where we were able to build up a healthy advantage, but it’s that old cliche of we’re only half way through this tie,” Stead said.

“We worked hard last night though; they had a flying guest in Dimitri Berge and they pushed us hard in the first few races.

“But we had a good middle part of the meeting and finished alright as well.

“I was particularly pleased with Broc (Nicol) and James (Shanes) but like I say it was a good, solid, encouraging team effort where we deserved the win and hopefully that will be the case again at their place.”

Scunthorpe favourite, and ex-Tiger, Jason Garrity was also involved in a horror crash on Thursday. Thankfully, x-rays have confirmed no broken bones in his leg, but he will have to spend a week or two on the sidelines.

Scorpions have booked experienced campaigner Rory Schlein to fill their extra gap for the second leg.

SCUNTHORPE: Rory Schlein, Dimitri Berge, Josh Auty, Jake Allen, Jason Garrity R/R, Danny Phillips, Gino Manzares.
SHEFFIELD: Richie Worrall, Todd Kurtz, Lasse Bjerre, Broc Nicol, Ty Proctor, Georgie Wood, James Shanes.
