TIGERS v GLASGOW, PREVIEW

Wednesday June 20, 2018
SHEFFIELD hand a debut to American youngster Broc Nicol and welcome Georgie Wood back to the club for the visit of Glasgow to Owlerton on Thursday (7.30).

Jan Graversen and Jack Smith were released by Tigers to make way for the duo who’ll be looking to make an instant impact as the Steel City side look to build on last week’s impressive 58-32 win over Berwick.

But with Glasgow including three-time British Champion Chris Harris plus in-form dangermen Claus Vissing and Richie Worrall, co-promoter Peter Mole is anticipating a tight contest.

“We took over at Sheffield more-or-less the same time the Glasgow owners went into their club and we have had some real close battles with them in the past few years,” Mole said.

“That could well be the case again on Thursday and we know we need a big performance to beat them because they’ve got a strong team.

“I’m sure everyone is excited to see what Georgie can do on his return and with both him and James (Shanes) at reserve, that’s one exciting partnership.

“As for Broc we’re sure he’ll be a big star of the future and he’s certainly got plenty of talent.

“Nobody should expect too much from him straight away; I think it will take him a few meetings to get fully into it but once he’s settled he’s going to provide plenty of entertainment.

“It’s a shame we had to let Jan and Jack go but speedway is a numbers game at the end of the day and we wanted to try and do something to make us even stronger.

“Now we urge our supporters to get right behind the new-look team and fingers crossed they can start with a win on Thursday.”

SHEFFIELD: Kyle Howarth, Todd Kurtz, Lasse Bjerre, Broc Nicol, Charles Wright, Georgie Wood, James Shanes.
