IPSWICH v TIGERS, PREVIEW
Wednesday June 06, 2018
LASSE Bjerre reports he has been successfully managing his long-term knee problems in the build-up to Thursday’s crunch showdown at Ipswich (7.30).
The Witches provided the opposition when the Sheffield Window Centre Tigers triumphed in last year’s Championship title decider.
Bjerre defied his ligament damage to complete the campaign, which included scoring 13 across the two legs of the grand final.
And after deciding to delay surgery to focus on riding in 2018, he has suffered few ill effects so far.
“I had the big accident last year and the ligaments in my knee are still not fixed,” said Bjerre.
“We were going to get it sorted in the winter but it would have meant me missing the start of the season.
“I am doing a lot of physiotherapy and a lot of things to try to strengthen the knee as I go along to make sure I can ride for the rest of the year.
“There is not any real pain, we have such good equipment these days with things like knee braces so I cannot twist it the wrong way.
“It is good, just not quite where I want it to be. I cannot go for a run when I want to.”
Tigers travel to Suffolk with a full team. The hosts will replace Michael Hartel (Speedway of Nations duty) with James Sarjeant.
IPSWICH: Rory Schlein, James Sarjeant, Cameron Heeps, Nico Covatti, Danny King, Connor Mountain, Danyon Hume. Team manager: Ritchie Hawkins.
SHEFFIELD: Kyle Howarth, Todd Kurtz, Jan Graversen, Lasse Bjerre, Charles Wright, Jack Smith, James Shanes. Team manager: Simon Stead.
