SHEFFIELD are targeting the first win of their Championship title defence when they host Workington at Owlerton on Thursday (7.30).

It’s been a tough start to the campaign for the Tigers with one draw and two defeats to their name so far.

But club bosses are demanding more and are hoping a return to home shale will kickstart their league season.

They know they face another stiff test though against a Workington side who have picked up some impressive results on the road in recent weeks.

Sheffield team manager Simon Stead said: “We’re certainly wary of Workington because they’ve shown what they’re capable of already this season.

“They’ve recently picked up good away wins at Glasgow and Peterborough and they’ve got some good riders.

“But we’ve been disappointed with our last couple of results and we’re looking for a response on Thursday.

“It’s important we get our first league win on the board soon and the riders know they need to up their game to do that against Workington.”

The Comets include recently crowned British Under-19 Champion Dan Bewley, former Danish International Nicolai Klindt and ex-Tiger Ty Proctor.

SHEFFIELD: Kyle Howarth, Todd Kurtz, Lasse Bjerre, Jan Graversen, Charles Wright, Jack Smith, James Shanes.

WORKINGTON: Rene Bach, Rasmus Jensen, Ty Proctor, Dan Bewley, Nicolai Klindt, Kyle Bickley, Mason Campton.
