THURSDAY'S BRITISH SEMI-FINAL PREVIEW

Wednesday May 09, 2018
SHEFFIELD stars Kyle Howarth and Charles Wright look to book their British Final places when Owlerton hosts the first semi-final on Thursday (7.30pm).

The top eight on the night will progress to Belle Vue on June 11, and both Window Centre Tigers riders are expected to be in the shake-up.

Captain Howarth is back in racing after having to pull out of the home clash with Peterborough last week – and he won the equivalent meeting on his home track last season.

Wright, meanwhile, has been in sensational form, with some spectacular overtaking moves in the draw with the Panthers.

Thursday’s line-up includes both the defending senior and double British Under-21 Champions in Craig Cook and Robert Lambert, and several former Tigers riders.

Jason Garrity, Josh Auty, Adam Roynon and Nathan Greaves will all be hopeful that track knowledge will help them gain qualifying places.

Sheffield co-promoter Peter Mole said: “When I look down the line-ups for the semi-finals I am filled with a great sense of optimism for the future of British Speedway.

“Forget all the doom and gloom merchants, just look at our line-up – how can you not get excited about the riders on display?

“GP star Craig Cook, international regulars Rory Schlein and Robert Lambert, Championship heat-leader Jason Garrity along with our own Kyle and Charles, and up-and-coming youngsters surely destined for the very top in our sport.

“Any one of those riders can win a race, although some will obviously be more consistent than others. It will make a fantastic evening of speedway racing, with no quarter being asked or given.”

Sheffield are pleased to confirm that normal admission prices apply for this 20-heat meeting, and season tickets will be valid.

The second semi-final takes place at Leicester next Tuesday, with Tigers reserve James Shanes included in the line-up for that meeting.

LINE-UP: Charles Wright, Robert Lambert, Rory Schlein, Max Clegg, Danny Ayres, Craig Cook, Jason Garrity, Stefan Nielsen, Carl Wilkinson, Zach Wajtknecht, Nathan Greaves, Adam Roynon, Kyle Howarth, Dan Bewley, Edward Kennett, Josh Auty.
