SIMON STEAD FAREWELL, PREVIEW

Saturday March 24, 2018
SHEFFIELD favourite Simon Stead will bring the curtain down on his racing career with a mouth-watering farewell meeting at Owlerton on Sunday (4pm).

The Tigers’ hero has assembled a stunning line-up for his ‘Last Lap’ meeting, and ‘Steady’ says it’s his way of saying thank you for the terrific support he’s received since starting out in 1997.

“I’m delighted with the final field and it promises to be one special meeting,” Stead said.

“To have so many big names, who are such quality speedway riders and who are real entertainers is brilliant and it’s going to be one hell of a show for everyone who comes along.

“Some of the programmed heats on paper are some of the strongest you’ll see anywhere all season and on a racetrack like Owlerton, I think we’re all in for a massive treat on Sunday.”

Reigning World Champion Jason Doyle is joined by fellow Grand Prix competitor Martin Vaculik. Danish dynamos Niels-Kristian Iversen, Peter Kildemand, Hans Andersen and Kenneth Bjerre are also involved as is 2016 British Champion Danny King. 2018 Tigers team members Kyle Howarth, Lasse Bjerre, and Todd Kurtz also line-up alongside last season’s inspirational No.1 Josh Grajczonek.

A special 56 page souvenir programme has been produced for the event and features interviews from Stead himself, Doyle and Jason Crump plus much, much more and will be available for just £4.

Admission is £16 adults, £13 concessions and £5 juniors (5-16). A bumper crowd is expected and supporters are urged to arrive early.

The Owlerton car park is expected to fill up early and Stead has confirmed extra space will be available at Hillsborough Park, Parkside Road S6 2AB - a short walk from the track.
