ANOTHER WORLD CHAMPION AT OWLERTON

Tuesday March 06, 2018
CHRIS Holder, the 2012 World Champion, will make a rare appearance at Sheffield for Simon Stead’s Farewell meeting on Sunday March 25 (4pm).

Aussie ace Holder is back with parent club Poole in the Premiership this season and Stead has revealed how he has kept a year-long promise.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have another World Champion in my meeting,” he said. “And Chris has been true to his word with me.

“I asked him last year and he promised me then if his diary allowed he would race in my meeting. It’s wonderful news.”

Stead is equally thrilled to confirm the addition of deadly rival Sam Masters to the field.

The duo clashed regularly during Stead’s career and their duels were worth the admission money alone.

Stead passed Masters in the Grand Final of the Premier League Riders’ Championship to take the title in 2016.

“I’ve had some battles with Sam,” said Stead. “He’s a great rider and I’m equally delighted to welcome him to my meeting.

“When I asked him he messaged me back saying even though I made his life hard sometimes he would be happy to be a part of my day. It’s brilliant.”

Holder and Masters join reigning World Champion Jason Doyle, Grand Prix star Martin Vaculik, British icon Chris Harris, classy Dane Hans Andersen, French ace David Bellego and Sheffield skipper Kyle Howarth in the field.

Two more names will be revealed later this week.
