SHEFFIELD Tigers will have a third new face in the team next season after signing James Shanes.

Shanes, 20, spent last season in the Premiership with Poole and did a solid job in helping the Pirates reach the play-offs.

Now he’s linking up with the Championship title holders – and he can’t wait!

“I’m really pleased to be coming to Sheffield,” he said.

“It’s a great club and I’m really excited about the new challenge for me. I really can’t wait for the season to start.

“As soon as Sheffield talked to me I knew it was where I wanted to be and we agreed everything pretty quickly.

“Simon Stead is a good manager as well as he was a top rider until recently and he’s always good to listen to, so it’s all good.”

Tigers co-promoter Damien Bates said: “We welcome James to Sheffield and we are confident he can do a good job.

“He’s got the ability and potential to score some valuable points for the team and he’s an important piece in the jigsaw. He’s also very keen!”

Shanes joins Jack Smith and Charles Wright in the newcomers group with Lasse Bjerre and Josh Bates confirmed from last season.

Two places remain with Tigers looking to finalise things before Christmas.

Lasse BJERRE 8.32
Charles WRIGHT 7.47
Josh BATES 6.54
James SHANES 3.74
Jack SMITH 2.51
Points remaining available: 13.92
