TIGERS 39 REDCAR 33

Monday October 23, 2017
SHEFFIELD ended their stunning season with a victory as they edged a 39-33 win over patched-up Redcar at Owlerton.

The meeting was delayed due to the late arrival of the track ambulance, but when racing got underway fans were treated to some spectacular action.

And the Window Centre Tigers eventually came on strong to earn a hard-fought triumph in their final meeting of an unforgettable campaign.

It has been a historic year for Simon Stead’s side, who finally brought title glory back to the city, and co-promoter Damien Bates was pleased to bring the curtain down on 2017 with a win.

Bates said: “It was a shame about the delay at the start with the ambulance, but there was nothing we could do and we thank the fans for their patience.

“Once the racing started we got some exciting action, and it was nice to end what has been a fantastic season with a win.

“We’ve done superbly this year to win the league and the pairs, so it was nice to go out with a victory to head into the winter.”

Ty Proctor top scored on a guest appearance for the Tigers, whilst Scott Nicholls also put in a strong showing at No.1.

Jan Graversen and Josh Bates were also involved in some thrilling action and helped their side edge clear in the closing stages.

Georgie Wood endured a tough night at reserve whilst Todd Kurtz pulled out after one ride, but the hosts still had enough to see off a makeshift Bears side who certainly weren’t lacking in effort.
