TIGERS 54 GLASGOW 36

Thursday August 31, 2017
SHEFFIELD skipper Kyle Howarth says they “made a statement” with their convincing 54-36 victory over Glasgow at Owlerton.

The Window Centre Tigers were pushed hard in the early stages but pulled clear and ran in three 5-1s in the final three races to make it 12 wins on the spin.

It was an impressive display from the in-form Yorkshiremen to comfortably dispatch of a Glasgow side sat third in the SGB Championship table.

Howarth and No.1 Josh Grajczonek both struck stunning paid maximums, joining forces for 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to run up the score and ensure the visitors left empty handed.

And Howarth felt the margin of their success proved to their title rivals they mean business.

“We knew it was going to be a tough meeting, and in the first few heats they kept running us close," Howarth said.

"It took us a long time to get ahead, but we managed to kick on towards the end of the meeting and we got the job done, so it was a successful night.

“It was important to beat Glasgow, and I think it’s made another statement. We’re beating the big teams too, and by a pretty big margin so everyone knows we mean business.”

Although the imperious Grajczonek and Howarth were the star performers, it was an excellent all-around team display from Simon Stead’s side.

Jan Graversen battled to paid double figures on a hectic night covering for the injured Todd Kurtz at reserve, whilst his lower order partner Georgie Wood fought hard for his one point.

Josh Bates ended his evening with two impressive wins, picking off Aaron Summers on the third lap of heat 14, whilst Lasse Bjerre bounced back from a last place in his opening ride to add eight points.

They will now prepare to head to Glasgow for the return fixture on Saturday (7pm) looking to maintain their winning run.

The Tigers will be back in home action when they host a double header next Sunday, September 10 (3.30).

They will host Ipswich followed by Redcar, with admission prices set at £20 for all adults, £10 for 12-17 and £2 for under 12s.
