TIGERS 54 SCUNTHORPE 39

LEADING light Josh Grajczonek made it back-to-back maximums as Sheffield soared to an 11th straight victory by beating Scunthorpe 54-39 at Owlerton.

The Aussie ace, a second-tier title winner with Somerset last year, racked up a perfect 12 on his return against Edinburgh on Sunday and was unbeaten by a Scorpion in this one.

Grajczonek backed up compatriot Todd Kurtz in the opener with Georgie Wood then claiming his first Sheffield Window Centre Tigers race win ahead of Jan Graversen to get the ball well and truly rolling.

Scunthorpe matched the hosts for a while with in-form Josh Auty landing the only significant blow by passing Graversen while on a tactical ride to lead a 7-2 in heat eight.

But despite seeing their lead halved, Simon Stead’s men kept chipping away at the scoreboard. Captain Kyle Howarth and Lasse Bjerre each dropped just one point to opponents from five rides to leave the boss purring about another strong team showing.

“It was another really solid meeting from all of the boys and I cannot ask for any more than that,” said Stead.

“If one of them is having an off night, the rest pull together to make sure we keep winning and that is the main thing.

“The team spirit is fantastic, everybody is helping each other to succeed and if we keep riding like we are then we will continue to progress.”

Meanwhile, Stead had a special mention for his number seven following Wood’s maiden chequered flag.

“It was great to see Georgie get a heat win,” he added. “I know he has invested heavily in his machinery in the past week or so in particular.

“We were all really pleased to see that pay off and for him to gain some return on that investment.”
