TIGERS 56 WORKINGTON 36

Thursday August 10, 2017
SHEFFIELD extended their lead at the top of the Championship with a comprehensive 56-36 home win over Workington.

The Window Centre Tigers won 12 of the 15 races as another solid team performance saw them comfortably maintain their unbeaten home record.

However, victory did come at a cost after No.1 Josh Grajczonek crashed in his second outing - ruling him out of Friday's trip to Redcar (7.30).

Sheffield promoter Damien Bates said: "Josh was flying around the outside and his footrest caught the air fence on bend two causing him to come off.

"He went out and won his third ride but his foot and ankle swelled up pretty badly so he had to pull out of meeting and could do with resting it for a day or two.

"But it was another really good team performance, even though we didn't have Lasse (Bjerre) who's been told he's got to rest his knee to stop further damage.

"That's seven straight wins for us now and it also means we haven't lost a meeting since we brought in Jan (Graversen) and Georgie (Wood) at reserve.

"We're not getting carried away though, we're just taking each meeting as it comes and we've got another key meeting at Redcar on Friday."

Josh Bates enjoyed his best night of the season for the Tigers, dropping just two points to the opposition on his way to a terrific 16 point haul.

Captain Kyle Howarth pulled off four race wins while Todd Kurtz reached double figures for the first time since the opening league fixture of the season at Owlerton against Berwick.

Jan Graversen was brilliant at reserve once again, including a terrific ride to gain a paid win in Heat 13, while Georgie Wood enjoyed his finest performance to date at Championship level.

With Grajczonek ruled out of Friday's trip to Redcar, the Tigers have booked Glasgow man Richard Lawson to deputise who scored 11 as guest No.1 for Workington at Owlerton on Thursday.

A full meeting preview will be issued on Friday morning.

SHEFFIELD 56: Josh Bates 16, Kyle Howarth 13+1, Todd Kurtz 11+1, Jan Graversen 8+2, Georgie Wood 4+1, Josh Grajczonek 4, Lasse Bjerre R/R.
