BERWICK 41 TIGERS 52

Saturday July 29, 2017
SHEFFIELD survived a mid-meeting scare to battle back and secure a 52-41 win at Berwick.

For a fifth successive fixture, the Window Centre Tigers wrapped up maximum points available and moved up to joint second in the Championship standings in the process.

The Owlerton outfit got off to a flying start, recording three 5-1 maximums on the trot, to open up a 12-point lead with just five races gone.

But the hosts hit back with four heat advantages of their own in the space of the next five races, including a 7-2 whilst on a tactical ride, and moved into the lead by one point with ten heats gone.

Under pressure they may suddenly have been, but Simon Stead's side regrouped and responded superbly as they dominated the latter stages to pick up another crucial victory.

Said Stead: "We told the boys before the meeting nothing less than a win would do and they got the job done in the end.

"After getting off to an impressive start, Berwick came back at us, but fair play to the boys, they got their heads together and finished strongly.

"It's another much needed win and it keeps our run of results going.

"I've said it a lot over the last couple of weeks, but we really do look much more like a full team now and we're really pleased with how things are going."

The Tigers have no home league meeting this Thursday, but travel to fellow high flyers Edinburgh on Friday for a crunch Championship showdown.
