TIGERS 51 WORKINGTON 39

Thursday July 20, 2017
SHEFFIELD boss Simon Stead was delighted to see them overcome a tough test to beat Workington 51-39 at Owlerton.

The Window Centre Tigers were pushed hard by the Comets but came on strong in the closing stages to preserve their perfect home record.

And Stead was pleased to avoid a potential banana skin to secure three more SGB Championship points.

"We're pleased with the result," Stead said. "To be fair to Workington, the result probably doesn't reflect how far they pushed us.

"They were right in the meeting all the way through and were tough opposition, but we got the result and that's the main thing.

"There's probably some room for improvement, but we've come through a tough meeting with three points so we're happy."

Top two Josh Grajconzek and Lasse Bjerre both claimed three race wins apiece to help cover the absence of injured skipper Kyle Howarth and joined forces for a 5-1 in the final race to ensure Workington left empty handed.

Todd Kurtz also bagged paid double figures whilst new signing Jan Graversen and guest Ryan Douglas each recorded a heat win.

Georgie Wood also beat his opposite number on two occasions at reserve on his debut to contribute to an excellent all-round team display.

The Tigers will be back in action at home to Newcastle next Thursday (7.30).
