TIGERS SWOOP FOR GEORGIE BOY

Wednesday July 19, 2017
SHEFFIELD Tigers have snapped up Georgie Wood to fill the final team spot available at reserve.

The Eastbourne racer will take his place in the side on Thursday when Workington visit Owlerton in a key Championship clash.

He replaces Nathan Stoneman who is out for the season with leg injuries and is the second signing this week after the arrival of Jan Graversen.

Co-promoter Damien Bates said: “We’re pleased to get back to a full seven-man team and we can kick on from here.

“Georgie is keen and wants to do well for us, he will fit in well with the rest of the lads and we’re pleased to welcome him to Owlerton.”

Wood himself is thrilled to have the opportunity to join a big club like Sheffield.

He said: “I’m grateful to Sheffield for giving me a chance in the Championship, and I want to take advantage.

“I know it’s going to be a step up, but I feel ready for it and I want to show I can score points at that level.

“I’ve got good equipment underneath me and I’ve been riding well. I think Sheffield will suit me as a track, so it’s a case of taking my momentum from the National League up into the Championship.”
