WORKINGTON 44 TIGERS 46

Saturday July 08, 2017
SHEFFIELD boss Simon Stead heaped praise on his side after they edged a 46-44 away win at Workington.

The Window Centre Tigers recorded 10 race wins with a powerful display at Derwent Park to emerge with three SGB Championship points.

No.1 Josh Grajczonek triumphed in a tense last-heat decider to see them over the line after Kyle Howarth endured bike problems.

The same duo had teamed up to give them the lead for the first time in heat 13, with Howarth taking the chequered flag as Grajczonek claimed third spot.

And Stead was thrilled to see them get over the line to bounce back from their heavy defeat at Glasgow in perfect fashion.

“Obviously we’re delighted,” Stead said. “It was just the response we were looking for after the Glasgow defeat.

“We went there believing we were good enough to win as long as we rode to our best, and we managed to get the job done.

“We didn’t make a great start but we grew into the meeting and did what we had to do, so we’re pleased with the three points.”

Grajczonek and Howarth both bagged three race wins apiece to notch double figures, whilst Lasse Bjerre and Josh Bates came on strong in the closing stages.

Todd Kurtz and Robert Branford added vital contributions, and although Nathan Stoneman struggled to make an impact the Tigers edged a tight encounter.

The Owlerton outfit will be back in action at Ipswich on Wednesday (7.30) before hosting Berwick on Thursday (7.30).

WORKINGTON 44: Ty Proctor 11+1, Ricky Wells 8+1, Thomas Jorgensen 7, Danny Ayres 6+1, Mason Campton 6, Matt Williamson 4+2, Rob Shuttleworth 2+1.
SHEFFIELD 46: Josh Grajczonek 12, Kyle Howarth 11, Lasse Bjerre 8+1, Josh Bates 7+1, Todd Kurtz 5, Rob Branford 3, Nathan Stoneman 0.
