SCUNTHORPE 49 TIGERS 41

Sunday June 11, 2017
SHEFFIELD co-promoter Damien Bates admitted he was disappointed with his side after their 49-41 defeat at Scunthorpe.

The Window Centre Tigers conceded two 5-1s in the last two races as they left the Eddie Wright Raceway empty handed.

It was a frustrating outcome for the Owlerton outfit, who have been in fine form on their travels since a 50-40 win at Scunthorpe last month.

And Bates insists they need all of their side to start contributing points after their blip.

“I’m disappointed to be honest,” said Bates. “I feel we should have won at Scunthorpe, we’ve already done it once and we wanted to do the same again.

“To let it slip at the end and leave without any points is disappointing, but we’ll just have to regroup.

“We’ve been riding with a four or five man team, and everyone needs to pull their socks up. I know we’re short at No.7 but the other six need to work together to make sure they all score points.”

Top two Kyle Howarth and Josh Grajczonek both bagged double figures for the visitors, whilst Lasse Bjerre and Josh Bates made solid contributions.

But Todd Kurtz, Robert Branford and guest Layne Cupitt contributed just six points between them as Scunthorpe’s strength in depth saw them over the line.

SCUNTHORPE 49: Lewis Kerr 12, Tero Aarnio 8+2, Josh Auty 8+1, Ryan Douglas 8, Carl Wilkinson 6+1, Michael Palm Toft 6, David Wallinger 1.
SHEFFIELD 41: Kyle Howarth 11, Josh Grajczonek 10+1, Lasse Bjerre 8, Josh Bates 6+2, Todd Kurtz 3, Robert Branford 2, Layne Cupitt 1.
