SHEFFIELD produced a magnificent display to see off a powerful Ipswich side 57-33 at Owlerton.

For the second week in succession, the Window Centre Tigers dominated their opponents - despite not being at full strength.

Already without usual reserve Rob Branford due to Premiership commitments, Sheffield then lost the services of Josh Bates whose partner was rushed into labour just hours before the meeting.

But as Brady Kurtz did last week, Edinburgh's Mark Riss proved to be a super guest booking, scoring a brilliant 14+1 from reserve.

With captain Kyle Howarth also going unbeaten, it was a true team performance throughout - much to the delight of team boss Simon Stead.

"After the disappointment of our defeat at Workington last weekend, that was just the response I was looking for and more," Stead said.

"Mark was exceptional for us tonight and we thank him for standing in at reserve.

"Kyle really impressed me once again but there were so many positives from all areas of the team.

"Ipswich are a really strong side in this league - yet we've just beat them pretty comfortably in the end!

"I've been drilling it into the lads how important good gating is in big meetings like that - and tonight they were great out of the starts.

"But the general performance was very pleasing again tonight and we've showed that Owlerton is going to be a tough place to come for any side!"

Riss secured three race wins out of seven and was involved in two particular thrilling battles with Ipswich racer Cameron Heeps.

Captain Kyle Howarth won all four of his outings as he extended his run of double figure scores for the Tigers in 2017.

Josh Grajczonek did well to hold onto his machine in his first ride after pulling a locker on bends one and two, but recovered superbly to go unbeaten by an opposition rider.

Lasse Bjerre earned a heat 15 nomination after storming to back-to-back race wins in his final two programmed rides.

Todd Kurtz had another solid night while Jack Parkinson-Blackburn helped the Tigers take the lead early on after holding off former Australian International Rory Schlein for a big 5-1 maximum with Howarth.

The Tigers will hope to take the momentum from the result against the Witches when they head to Newcastle on Sunday.
