TIGERS 61 BERWICK 30

Thursday April 06, 2017
SHEFFIELD dominated their opening home SGB Championship fixture of the year with an impressive 61-30 win over Berwick.

It's the Window Centre Tigers' biggest home win in the second tier since September 2011.

After opening with six straight heat advantages, the Owlerton outfit stamped their authority on the clash and never looked in any danger of being caught.

Todd Kurtz was in outstanding form on his home league debut, scoring a five ride paid maximum, while brother Brady Kurtz covered for injured No.1 Josh Grajczonek in fine fashion winning all four of his races.

Captain Kyle Howarth and Danish ace Lasse Bjerre both bagged two race wins apiece while Josh Bates, Rob Branford and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn were all solid in a fabulous full team performance from the Tigers.

Team manager Simon Stead said: "It's the sort of start we wanted here at home and every single one of the boys did themselves proud tonight.

"It was a great effort from all of the boys and we wanted to show the rest of the league what we can do on our day.

"No disrespect to Berwick, but we will face much tougher tests than we did tonight, but we can only race against what's in front of us.

"Take nothing away from our boys though, they all rode really well and I'm particularly pleased for Todd.

"Some people have been saying it would take him time to adapt to our big, fast track after being with Plymouth for a while, but he proved any doubters he may have had wrong tonight!

"He was superb as was Brady and we thank him for standing in and doing such a brilliant job at such short notice."
