TIGERS 47 EDINBURGH 43

SHEFFIELD survived last heat drama to snatch a vital 47-43 home win over Edinburgh.

The Window Centre Tigers lead by eight points with two races to go, but a 5-1 to the visitors in the penultimate heat took the encounter right down to the wire.

When Edinburgh duo Sam Masters and Erik Riss made the gate and sat on another maximum in heat 15, it looked like the Owlerton outfit were set for another frustrating ending.

However, a determined ride from skipper Simon Stead and flying star Jason Garrity salvaged a crucial 3-3 to secure three more Premier League points.

Team manager Eric Boocock: "It really was a terrific ride from those two and it just about got us the win in the end.

"It was a much needed three points for us, and while we're grateful of the win, we're a little bit disappointed we let them get a consolation point - but they did deserve it if I'm being honest.

"They pushed us all the way and while it was a bit nervy for us at times, I think the fans will have gone home happy with the entertainment tonight."

Jason Garrity dropped just one point to the opposition on another stunning night from the all action Mancunian. Garrity picked up three race wins, including one of the individual rides of the season as he hunted down Sam Masters and dived underneath the Australian on the final two bends of heat 11.

Simon Stead also secured a hat-trick of victories and his tally would have been greater if mechanical gremlins hadn't have crept in in his fourth outing.

Kyle Howarth and Dimitri Berge both chipped in with vital contributions from the middle order while Arthur Sissis should have scored more than the four points he managed after letting a number of winning positions slip in heats seven and eight.

Josh Bates suffered a frustrating night at No. 3 while reserve Nathan Greaves failed to trouble the scorers for a third time in the last five meetings at Owlerton.

The Tigers now have a week's break before hosting rivals Scunthorpe next Thursday (August 25).
