TIGERS 51 PLYMOUTH 42

Thursday July 14, 2016
SHEFFIELD continued their dominant home form with an impressive 51-42 win over Plymouth at Owlerton.

The Window Centre Tigers stormed back to the top of the Premier League table courtesy of their eighth successive victory on home shale.

Talented Plymouth top two Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder offered some determined resistance for the visitors, but the hosts always had the edge with their top four in fine form.

Skipper Simon Stead led the side superbly with a 16+1 point haul – suffering his only defeat in a tight heat 13 battle with Holder.

He was delighted with an excellent night at the office for both himself and the team as they enjoyed a perfect return to the track after almost a three-week break.

Said Stead: “It was a really good performance, and it was nice to see us score so many points from rider replacement because that can sometimes be a bit dodgy.

“All the boys have ridden well in conditions which were quite tricky early on against a Plymouth team who have some guys who are really quick here.

“They kept us honest for a while and we had to keep our heads down, but I don’t think the result was ever in doubt so it was a good night.”

Whilst Stead played a starring role, Kyle Howarth and Josh Bates both bagged double figures with impressive displays.

With Dimitri Berge also putting in a solid showing in the tough No.5 spot, the Tigers covered Jason Garrity’s rider replacement outings with an unbeaten paid 12 points.

Reserve duo Arthur Sissis and Nathan Greaves endured tough evenings but both made important contributions as the Tigers ran just six last places.

The Owlerton outfit will return to action as they head to Newcastle for the first leg of their Knockout Cup Quarter-Final on Sunday (6pm) before hosting the second leg next Thursday (7.30).
