JASON Garrity struck a stunning 15-point maximum to lead Sheffield to a 49-40 win over Newcastle at Owlerton.

The all-action Brit went unbeaten for the second straight meeting as the Window Centre Tigers maintained their unbeaten home record with a battling display.

Garrity brilliantly saw off opposition No.1 Robert Lambert in exhilarating races in heats 11 and 15 to complete his memorable evening and ensure the Diamonds left empty handed.

The result moves Sheffield joint-top of the Premier League table, level with Glasgow and Somerset on 19 points.

Joint team manager Marc Bates admitted it was far from a perfect performance from his side – but he was nonetheless thrilled to claim a potentially vital win to bolster their play-off bid.

Bates said: “It was a tough meeting but we are pleased to get another three points and keep our good home run going.

“Josh wasn't 100% and Steady is having a few issues which he's trying to sort out, but Jason Garrity was absolutely tremendous again.

“He had two superb races with Robert Lambert, who I want to give a special mention to because he showed tonight why he's a really special talent.

“It wasn't our best performance but we got the job done and we just need to keep moving forwards to make sure we reach the play-offs at the end of the season.”

Although Garrity was undoubtedly the star of the show, flying Frenchman Dimitri Berge continued his excellent Owlerton form to notch double figures.

Kyle Howarth also put in a solid showing in the engine room of the side, whilst Nathan Greaves enjoyed an encouraging evening in the No.7 spot after winning heat two.

Reserve partner Arthur Sissis contributed a vital four points, whilst Josh Bates battled through the pain barrier to add paid four before an unfortunate crash caused by bike problems in his final ride.

Skipper Simon Stead endured a difficult evening but ended in style by partnering Garrity for a 5-1 after a terrific tussle with teenage ace Lambert to all but wrap up victory for his side.

After earning their sixth successive home win, the Tigers will be looking to continue their excellent run of form when they host Redcar at Owlerton next Thursday (7.30).
