TIGERS 53 WORKINGTON 38

Thursday June 02, 2016
SHEFFIELD got back to winning ways in convincing fashion with a 53-38 win over Workington at Owlerton.

Jason Garrity struck a stunning paid maximum whilst Simon Stead, Kyle Howarth and Dimitri Berge all made double figures as the Window Centre Tigers overpowered the Comets to move back up to second in the Premier League table.

Having suffered a disappointing defeat at Derwent Park last Saturday to end their winning run, they quickly gained revenge in the return fixture to extend their winning run on home shale to five meetings.

It was a classy performance from the Owlerton outfit as they led from start to finish – and joint team manager Eric Boocock was delighted to see his side respond to the weekend’s setback with a victory.

Boocock said: “It was a good result for us, and although it was very close at times we were pleased to come out on top.

“Jason got his first paid maximum of the year and he says that will be the first of many, so we hope that will be the case, and the rest of the top four rode superbly as well.

“We’ve got a run of home meetings now which is good for us, and we hope we can keep our strong form going at Owlerton to put together a winning run.”

With Garrity untroubled from his five rides and Stead suffering just one defeat, the Tigers’ top end powered them to victory against the depleted Comets.

Former Workington man Howarth and in-form Frenchman Berge also impressed to ensure the hosts covered the absence of the injured Josh Bates.

Reserve duo Arthur Sissis and Nathan Greaves also demonstrated plenty of encouraging signs to add vital contributions despite opposite number Adam Roynon piling up 15 points.

Ex-Tigers’ man Roynon notched three race wins, but he was the only visiting rider to take the chequered flag as the Sheffield top four themselves accounted for 12 race winners.

It was an excellent win for the Yorkshiremen to begin a run of four successive home meetings, which will continue when they host Newcastle at Owlerton next Thursday (7.30).
