SHEFFIELD put in a fine all-around team display to earn a 50-43 away win over local rivals Scunthorpe at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Window Centre Tigers got their League Cup campaign underway with a hard-fought victory to make it four wins in their last five meetings against the Scorpions.

It was another hugely encouraging performance from the Owlerton outfit after their battling showing against Leicester on Thursday as they emerged with all four points.

Joint team manager Marc Bates was thrilled with his side – and he is calling on them to deliver more of the same as they welcome Peterborough to Owlerton on Thursday (7.30).

“It was a great win for us away from home, and the whole team rode really well,” Bates said.

“It’s good to get our first win in our first meeting against another Premier League team. It’s been a really positive start to the season for us so hopefully we can keep that going.

“Kyle (Howarth) and Jason (Garrity) led from the front, and both Richard (Hall) and Dimitri (Berge) were excellent.

“Josh (Bates) got better as the meeting went on, and Nathan (Greaves) rode really hard and definitely deserved some points for his efforts.

“We are looking forward to the home meeting against Peterborough on Thursday. We are expecting to have Simon (Stead) back which will make us even stronger so I’m sure we can put in another good performance.”

The Tigers were led superbly by Jason Garrity and Kyle Howarth, who both bagged double figures, whilst guesting No.1 Lasse Bjerre notched two important race wins.

Down at reserve, Richard Hall continued his superb start to the season to add a vital contribution at reserve – and with Dimitri Berge and Josh Bates also earning a race win apiece the visitors had plenty of strength in depth.

Teenage reserve Nathan Greaves was right in the mix throughout and was unlucky not to score, particularly as he was harshly excluded in his final ride.

It was nonetheless a confidence-boosting afternoon for the Tigers as they came out on top in their first meeting of the year against Premier League opposition.
