GLASGOW 53 TIGERS 40

Tuesday May 12, 2015
DEPLETED Sheffield suffered just their third defeat of the season as they went down 53-40 in an entertaining clash with Glasgow at Ashfield.

Having been struck by the news Ty Proctor has been stopped from racing with immediate effect earlier in the day, the Window Centre Tigers put up a brave fight only to fall short of a consolation point.

Jack Lee’s side did endure some misfortunate with Jason Garrity shedding a chain after clashing with Richard Lawson in heat 11 whilst Josh Bates was excluded when he and Rafal Konopka battled for the same piece of track and tangled in the very next race.

And stand-in skipper Andre Compton felt his side could well have emerged with a point on another night.

Said Compton: “It would have been good to come away with a point, but we had a few incidents and things which just didn’t quite go our way tonight.

“Being without Ty (Proctor) definitely made a difference as well, but we certainly didn’t disgrace ourselves. Everyone gave it their best shot and there were still plenty of positives to take despite the defeat.”

Compton put in another impressive display to top score for the Tigers, reeling off three classy race wins, whilst Grajczonek put in a strong showing as he guested for Simon Stead at No.1.

The Australian pulled off a stunning heat 11 ride as he took a tactical ride to pull the visitors back into contention heading into the closing stages.

Talented reserve Arthur Sissis also started and ended his night with composed race wins as he continues to demonstrate plenty of encouraging signs.

However, Ashley Birks, Jason Garrity and Josh Bates all earned little reward for their determined efforts as Sheffield were unable to add to their Premier League points tally.

They will be back in action on Thursday as they face Peterborough in a mouth-watering top of the table clash at Owlerton (7.30).
