IPSWICH 44 TIGERS 49

Monday May 04, 2015
SHEFFIELD stormed to a superb 49-44 win over Ipswich in a tense Bank Holiday affair at Foxhall.

The Window Centre Tigers led throughout, demonstrating plenty of composure and determination to fend off a strong Witches side.

Having raced to a back to back 5-1s in the opening two races, Jack Lee’s side were always able to keep Ipswich at arm’s length with another fine all-around team performance.

Although they were given a late scare when former Tigers favourite Nico Covatti led a 7-2 as he took a tactical ride in heat 12, Ty Proctor and Josh Bates joined forces in the penultimate race to wrap up a memorable win.

It was an excellent afternoon for the Owlerton outfit as they bounced back from their crushing defeat at Somerset on Friday to record their second win over Ipswich in the space of a week.

And team boss Lee was delighted with an outstanding showing from his side to emerge with three more Premier League points.

“It was a brilliant win for us,” said Lee. “Straight from heat one we led, and all the riders played their part again.

“Nick Morris did a really good job for us as a guest, and everyone else scored important points to make sure we got over the line.

“To come to Ipswich and win is a great result, and hopefully we can build on this and put together another good run of form.”

Nick Morris stepped in and put in a fine display as he guested for Simon Stead at No.1, top scoring with a classy 12+1 point haul, whist in-form Andre Compton added a crucial 9+1.

Aussie ace Ty Proctor also notched double figures, racing to two important race wins from the No.4 position as he put in an excellent performance.

Youngster Josh Bates fought to a vital paid eight at reserve, whilst Jason Garrity, Ashley Birks and Arthur Sissis all chipped in with important points in what was another promising team effort.

The Tigers will be back in League Cup action as they travel to Redcar tomorrow (7.30), with Josh Grajczonek filling in for Stead in the No.1 spot.
