SHEFFIELD put in a determined display as they edged a 50-43 win over Ipswich at Owlerton.
The Window Centre Tigers bounced back from their first defeat of the season against Somerset a week ago to add three more points to their Premier League tally.
It was another fine all-around team showing from Jack Lee’s side as they got back to winning ways with an excellent performance.
Guesting No.1 Craig Cook reeled off four wins out of five as he deputised for the injured Simon Stead, racing clear in heats 13 and 15 as the hosts withstood a late Witches surge sparked by an 8-1 in heat 11.
Owlerton hero Andre Compton continued his fine start to the season to offer excellent support, whilst Jason Garrity raced to back to back wins in his final two outings on just his second appearance for the club.
Reserve duo Josh Bates and Arthur Sissis also continued their encouraging starts to the season – whilst Ty Proctor added a solid showing in the tough No.5 position.
Middle order man Ashley Birks recovered from a difficult start to the meeting to contribute an important three points as Sheffield edged a tight encounter and left the Witches going home empty handed.
It was a perfect response from the Tigers following their disappointing defeat against Somerset seven days ago.
Co-promoter Damien was delighted with a well-deserved win – and he is hoping for another strong showing as they look for revenge against the Rebels at the Oak Tree Arena tomorrow night (7.30).
Said Bates: “It was a hard meeting as Ipswich are a good side, so we did really well and it was a good all-around performance to get three points.
“We were really happy with Jason Garrity’s ten points and Craig Cook did an excellent job for us again. All the boys dug deep and it was a good win.
“We are hoping to go down to Somerset and get something tomorrow night. We have Nick Morris and Anders Mellgren guesting in place of Steady and Jason Garrity. We are hoping to come away with at least a point and get revenge after they beat us at our place last week.”
