GLASOW 55 TIGERS 40

Sunday July 20, 2014
SHEFFIELD put up a brave fight but could not add to their Premier League points tally as they slipped to a 55-40 defeat against Glasgow at Ashfield.

The Window Centre Tigers were hit by the loss of Ty Proctor early on as he aggravated a leg problem suffered from his heat 15 crash against Newcastle at Owlerton on Thursday.

They were then dealt a further blow as Leigh Lanham crashed heavily in heat 10, causing him to be taken to hospital for assessment on a back injury.

Despite the loss of two key riders, Joe Screen’s men put in a gutsy display only to fall short of a consolation point.

Team boss Screen admitted he was left extremely frustrated and hoping for good news regarding their injury victims.

Said Screen: “After Thursday we had a good team spirit and we were all high on confidence again. We went up to Glasgow with a real buzz and believing we could get at least a point, so the way things turned out was disappointing.

“We had those injuries and things just didn’t go our way again, so it was a frustrating night and we’ve got to try and pick it up.”

The experienced Simon Stead and Andre Compton duo led the Owlerton outfit in admirable fashion, both adding double figure points hauls with impressive displays.

The pair accounted for all of Sheffield’s five race wins as both rolled back the years with classy performances.

Compton claimed a stunning tactical ride win to keep Sheffield’s hopes of a point alive after a slow start, whilst skipper Stead stormed to three composed wins as he topped the scorecharts.

However, the pair found themselves short of support, with Lanham struggling before his unfortunate crash and Proctor’s early withdrawal proving a huge blow.

Taylor Poole, Ben Wilson and James Sarjeant all battled hard for little reward, and the wounded Tigers eventually had to leave Scotland empty handed.

GLASGOW 55: Rusty Harrison 14+1, Theo Pijper 11+1, Kevin Wolbert 10+1, Kasper Lykke 9+4, Tom Perry 6+1, Anders Thomsen 5, Christian Henry r/r.

SHEFFIELD 40: Simon Stead 15, Andre Compton 12, Taylor Poole 5, Ben Wilson 3+1, James Sarjeant 2+2, Ty Proctor 2, Leigh Lanham 1.
