ASHWORTH INJURES WRIST AT PETERBOROUGH

Sunday July 08, 2007
SHEFFIELD Tigers crashed out of the Premier League Fours Championship at Peterborough on Sunday afternoon, after trailing in fourth place in their qualifying group.

To add to their woes the Tigers lost the services of Ricky Ashworth after his opening ride, when he sustained a wrist injury in a frightening crash after being thrown over his handlebars. He hit the safety fence with some force and we will have further news on his injury on our next update.

After that setback Sheffield had little to offer and subsequently finished in last place in their group with just 6 points. Kings Lynn won the group on 16 points and were joined in the Grand Final by Somerset who scored 15. Glasgow missed out on a final place after taking third place with 11.

In group B Isle of Wight and Rye House progressed through to the Final to face the Stars and Rebels scoring 16 and 13 points respectively.

In the Final Isle of Wight proved to be runaway winners with an emphatic victory with 38 points. Somerset with 22 just edged out Kings Lynn (21) for the runners-up spot. Rye House were fourth with 15.

It’s proved to be a good week or so for the Islanders as today’s Fours success follows up their recent Premier League Pairs win at Somerset.
