BERWICK 39 TIGERS 39

Saturday September 28, 2013
THE RICKY ASHWORTH BENEFIT MEETING between Berwick and Sheffield ended all square in front of a packed crowd at Shielfield Park.

The night was all about raising as much money as possible for Ricky, who still remains in a coma eight weeks on from his accident at Scunthorpe, but his current and former sides played out an excellent battle on the track.

With a whole host of riders volunteering to race, with only expenses covered, both sides were much changed from their usual septet and a 13-heat meeting ended as a draw.

The Tigers enlisted the services of Richie Worrall, Joszef Tabaka, Theo Pijper and Joey Ringwood and they actually fell behind after the home team made a strong start.

After six heats the Bandits were six points ahead and it looked as if it was to be Ricky’s current club to emerge victorious, but the makeshift Sheffield team dug deep.

Edinburgh duo Joszef Tabaka and Theo Pijper won big races to give some hope and when Andre Compton teamed up with Richie Worrall to grab a 4-2 in heat 11 the Window Centre Tigers were just two behind.

Two shared heats meant that that two-point gap remained with just one race to go, but again Worrall played his part as he raced to a victory and Danny Maassen nicked third, meaning the spoils were shared in an entertaining duel.

The Rider of the Night trophy went to Tigers skipper Andre Compton as he won a brilliant final with Worrall, Pijper and Kenneth Hansen.

BERWICK 39: Kevin Doolan 8+1, David Bellego 8, Jakub Jamrog 8, Kenneth Hansen 6+1, Matthew Wethers 4+2, Paul Starke 3, Dimitri Berge 2+1.

SHEFFIELD 39: Theo Pijper 11, Richie Worrall 8+1, Andre Compton 8, Jozsef Tabaka 5, Danny Maassen 3+1, Joey Ringwood 2+2, Damien Koppe 2.
