RYE HOUSE 55 SHEFFIELD 37

Saturday July 07, 2007
SHEFFIELD survived a late onslaught at Rye House to snatch the aggregate bonus point from their 55-37 defeat.

With four races to go the Owlerton men were comfortably ahead on aggregate - only for the Rockets to hammer home a 4-2 and two successive 5-1 maximums to set up a thrilling heat 15 decider.

Skipper Andre Compton responded in style with a stunning win when the pressure was on ahead of Steve Boxall and Ricky Ashworth edged out teenage sensation Tai Woffinden to spark celebrations in the Sheffield pit corner.

Compton had earlier kept Sheffield in the hunt with four-points from his second place as a tactical ride on the tricky Hoddesdon track - and James Cockle was impressive at reserve when winning heat 2.

The result took Tigers back in joint top position in the Premier League with a 19-point haul from 12 outings.

RYE HOUSE: Steve Boxall 14, Adam Roynon 12+3, Tommy Allen 9+2, Tai Woffinden 9, Chris Neath 8+1, Luke Bowen 2, Robbie Kessler 1.
SHEFFIELD: Andre Compton 14, Ricky Ashworth 8, James Cockle 5, James Birkinshaw 3+1, Joel Parsons 3+1, Ben Wilson 2+1, Paul Cooper 2.
