NEWCASTLE 66 TIGERS 29

Sunday August 04, 2013
THE SHEFFIELD WINDOW CENTRE TIGERS were given their heaviest defeat of the season by a brilliant Newcastle side on Sunday evening.

Brough Park hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Tigers in recent seasons and again Newcastle put them to the sword with a powerful display.

It was a tough night all round for Sheffield and was it not for Ricky Wells and guest Kevin Doolan - riding in place of Simon Stead - the scoreline could actually have been worse.

Wells’ away form has been excellent all year and he was the only real shining light throughout the contest. The American star scored 12 of the team’s 29 and provided Newcastle with their only real threat, although Doolan gave his all to finish his evening with nine points.

Damien Koppe and Facundo Albin collided in heat two and that shook both riders up, with Koppe later withdrawing from the meeting and Albin going to hospital afterwards with a suspected rib injury.

Team boss David Hoggart rued yet another two injuries this season; “Both of them were in a fair bit of pain, Facu went to the hospital with a rib injury and Damien looks to have heavy bruising around the hip area.

“All the guys tried, I can’t criticise them for that. Ricky and Kev rode well, Adam tried his best, Andre was a bit off the pace and struggled with his equipment and Joe was poor. Just a bad day at the office and one to forget about.”

Newcastle; (Richie Worrall 14+1, Andrew Tully 14+1, Stuart Robson 13+1, Lewis Kerr 10+2, Ludvig Lindgren 10+1 , Chris Schramm 5+2, Rider Replacement for Christian Henry.)

Sheffield; (Ricky Wells 12, Kevin Doolan (G) 9, Adam Roynon 4, Facundo Albin 2, Andre Compton 1, Damien Koppe 1, Joe Haines 0.)
