RICKY Wells raced to his best score of the season - but couldn’t stop Sheffield from crashing to their second Premier League defeat to Redcar in as many days.

The American’s 16-point haul was the only real resistance from the Window Centre Tigers, who after Thursday's humbling home loss went to Teesside looking for revenge.

But without the injured Richard Hall they were never really in contention with the Bears racing into a 17-7 lead after four races. Wells’ tactical ride win in Heat 6 did reduce the deficit by three, but Redcar then responded with two successive maximums to lead 33-18 after Heat 8.

Even the brilliant Simon Stead failed to halt the home juggernaut, with the Tigers skipper scoring just 10+1 from six rides and could only manage a second place behind Micky Dyer when going for double-points in Heat 11.

Already trailing 44-28 any hope Tigers had of grabbing a consolation league point were finally extinguished as the Bears finished with three 5-1s in the final four races, leaving the Owlerton side with nothing to show for their efforts from the last 24 hours.
