ARGENTINIAN ace Emiliano Sanchez will try his hand at indoor ice speedway later this month.

The Sheffield Tigers star will take his place in the final staging of the Telford Ice spectacular on Sunday, February 26.

Racing takes place in the Telford Ice Rink and the bikes will have spikes in their specially adapted tyres to maintain grip on the tight turns.

Sanchez will appear for a Rest of the World side in the afternoon session before riding in the British Open Championship in the evening.

Said Sanchez: “I will go there and try to enjoy myself and it would be nice to see a few Sheffield fans there too, it is always a good day out.

“It is very difficult to ride on such a small track and on the ice but I know what it takes and hopefully I can do well.”

Telford Ice 2012 will not only be the 25th anniversary of the event but it will be the last as redevelopment of Telford Ice Rink means the bikes cannot be accommodated in future. Ticket sales have been good and remain on general sale.

The event features both afternoon and evening sessions with England Select v Rest of the World at 3pm followed by the British Open at 7.30pm.
