TIGERS v WORKINGTON - THURSDAY PREVIEW

Wednesday September 28, 2011
SHEFFIELD’S push for the Premier League runners-up spot continues at home to Workington Comets on Thursday (7.45).

The Sheffield Window Centre-backed side are in the middle of a hectic spell after trips to Rye House and Glasgow in the last few days.

And they are hoping to be back to full strength after losing skipper Ricky Ashworth for the Glasgow meeting on Monday after his crash in the Premier League Riders’ Championship on Sunday.

Club owner Neil Machin said: “Workington will come here with nothing to lose. They have riders who can adapt well to the wide open spaces of our track and from our point of view we need to get back on the winning track in order for us to maintain our challenge for the runners-up spot.

“And a win would set us up nicely for the long trip to Plymouth on Friday where we have already won once this season. There is no reason why we can’t go there and do that again. It’s a busy time for the boys which tests them and their machinery but there’s a lot of points to race for.”

Workington are without Peter Kildermand, the classy Dane who caught the attention of Elite League Coventry this season and they will use rider-replacement.

And Birmingham’s Claus Vissing will deputise for the injured Tomas Topinka as a guest rider.

SHEFFIELD: Shane Parker, Hugh Skidmore, Josh Auty, Emiliano Sanchez, Ricky Ashworth, Simon Lambert, Ashley Birks.

WORKINGTON: Rusty Harrison, Peter Kildermand R/R, Simon Nielsen, Richard Lawson, Claus Vissing, Gary Irving, Kenny Ingalls.
