TIGERS 63 NEWCASTLE 29

Thursday September 15, 2011
SHEFFIELD Tigers continued their surge towards a top two Premier League finish with a storming 63-29 win over Newcastle at Owlerton on Thursday.

Reserve Ashley Birks was in awesome form with a string of stunning rides in his 10+2 maximum haul which was a bonus at reserve for the home side.

Josh Auty dropped one point to an opposing rider, his only defeat at the fastest track in Britain in the last three weeks.

And skipper Ricky Ashworth warmed up for next week’s Premier League Riders’ Championship with 14 from his five outings. A similar display on Sunday week will give him a fine chance of a second PLRC title in three years.

Mark Lemon and Stuart Robson were both used for tactical rides by visiting boss George English but they failed to win a race on a night of home domination.

Boss Eric Boocock said: "I can't fault the lads, they are unstoppable at home at the moment but obviously we want to keep it going and try and finish with second place in the league which isn't perfect, but still a fabulous effort."

TIGERS: Ricky Ashworth 14, Josh Auty 11+3, Ashley Birks 10+2, Shane Parker 9+1, Hugh Skidmore 7, Simon Lambert 6+3, Emiliano Sanchez 6+2.

NEWCASTLE: Mark Lemon 12, Stuart Robson 10, Steve Worrall 4, Claes Nedermark 2, Derek Sneddon 1, Joe Haines 0, Ritchie Worrall 0.
