BETTY AND ROY WILSON - FUNERAL DETAILS

Tuesday September 13, 2011
OFFICIALS at Sheffield Speedway are reeling after the second death of a club stalwart inside three weeks.

Former office manager Betty Wilson died aged 70 on Monday, after a short illness. Husband Roy, who was the head of Owlerton’s highly successful training school until its closure, died earlier this month.

Tributes have been led by Tigers promoter Neil Machin: “Betty had been part and parcel of what we did at Sheffield for around 30 years and she was a massive personality. I think most people in speedway knew her and she was certainly a character.

“It’s a huge tragedy, coming so soon after Roy’s death. They had both played a big part in the development and organisation of speedway here in Sheffield and will be sadly missed.”

The funeral is at Grenoside Crematorium on Thursday at 12.30pm and there will be a minute’s silence before the Tigers’ Premier League match against Newcastle that night.
