BERWICK 47 TIGERS 41

JOSH Auty’s Heat 15 win enabled Sheffield to secure a consolation point from their defeat at Berwick on Saturday.

Tigers were up against it after conceding three 5-1s in the first six races at Shielfield Park, but they remained in touch thanks largely to a series of wins from Ricky Ashworth, who was unbeaten from his first four rides.

Successive 4-2s in Heats 12 and 13 saw the gap reduced to five points before Berwick guest Aaron Summers secured victory for the Bandits by winning Heat 14 with Jade Mudgway taking third place.

That left Tigers needing an advantage from the last race to at least gain a point, and those hopes receded when Ashworth broke the tapes and was then disqualified for exceeding the time allowance when he was set to go off the handicap.

But Berwick’s Sebastian Alden also suffered mechanical trouble at the start-line and that left Auty to head home Ludvig Lindgren to at least ensure Tigers had something to take from a meeting which had been heavily delayed after home reserve Mitchell Davey crashed in Heat 2 and was taken to hospital.

BERWICK 47: Aaron Summers 12, Ludvig Lindgren 11+2, Lee Complin 9, Jade Mudgway 8+3, Sebastian Alden 7+1, Mitchell Davey 0, Kozza Smith r/r.

SHEFFIELD 41: Ricky Ashworth 12, Josh Auty 10, Shane Parker 8, Emiliano Sanchez 4, Ashley Birks 3, Simon Lambert 2+1, Hugh Skidmore 2.
