TIGERS CRASH OUT IN SEMI FINALS OF PREMIER PAIRS
Friday June 24, 2011
THE Sheffield Window Centre Tigers pairing of Ricky Ashworth and Shane Parker went out of the Premier League Pairs at the semi final stage at a wet Oak Tree Arena, Somerset on Friday night.
The Tigers pairing opened up with a 5-4 heat win over home side Somerset as Ricky Ashworth and Shane Parker settled in behind Cory Gathercole and they followed this up with the same in their next race after Jason Lyons was disqualified when he came down attempting to pass Ashworth going into the final lap. In the rerun Aaron Summers takes the victory as the Tigers pairing take the minor places.
With the rain getting worse Parker and Ashworth gain maximum points over the Ipswich pairing of Kevin Doolan and Taylor Poole. There was controversy in the Tigers final qualifying heat as Ashworth is disqualified after falling on the first turn, Ashworth clearly unhappy with the decision. In the rerun Edinburgh’s Craig Cook takes the victory over Parker with Andrew Tully to give the Monarchs pairing a 6-3 heat advantage, Parker’s second place proving vital moving the Tigers into the semi finals on 20 points behind group winners Redcar who finished on 22 points.
Glasgow took victory in group one with Workington second meaning the Scottish outfit facing the Window Centre Tigers in the semi final.
Ashworth took the victory ahead of veteran Joe Screen who team rode James Grieves home ahead of Shane Parker to give Glasgow a place in the final alongside Workington who defeated Redcar in the other semi final.
Glasgow’s Grieves and Screen took the title with victory over Workington’s James Wright and Rusty Harrison.
1st Glasgow (Joe Screen and James Grieves)
2nd Workington (Ricky Ashworth and Shane Parker)
