TIGERS 61 BIRMINGHAM 29

Thursday April 03, 2025
SHEFFIELD opened their 2025 campaign with their joint highest ever Premiership victory.

The Tru7 Group Tigers cruised to a 61-29 win over Birmingham on an emotional night in South Yorkshire.

Racing as a six man team following Tai Woffinden’s crash in Poland last weekend, Simon Stead’s side stepped up to the plate sensationally, notching nine maximums and limiting the visitors to just three race wins.

Five of those maximums came in the first six heats as they coasted into a 27-9 lead - and it would’ve been more had it not been for mechanical gremlins for Rising Star Leon Flint whilst in second in Heat Two.

The first shared race of the night came in the re-run of Heat Seven when Chris Holder, who was initially second, capitalised on a restart following Danyon Hume’s first lap slide off.

But race of the night came in Heat Eight though with the frighteningly fast starting Anders Rowe well out front, Flint worked hard to re-pass Jonas Jeppesen for second.

That was the first of another three 5-1s - and with five races still to go, the first league points of the season were already comfortably in the bag with Rowe completing a paid maximum on debut in the process.

Three 3-3s and a 4-2 to Birmingham followed with Josh Pickering, Jack Holder and Chris Holder dropping their only points of the night in Heats 12 and 13.

But Jack Holder and Pickering rounded off the night in style with a final 5-1 before supporters around the stadium chanted Tai Woffinden’s name as the riders took a massively deserved standing ovation for a thoroughly professional performance.

The Tru7 Group Tigers are back in home action next Thursday (April 10, 7.30pm) when King’s Lynn are the visitors.
