“LET’S WIN IT FOR WOFFY” – that’s the message from skipper Josh Pickering ahead of Sheffield’s season opener tonight (Thursday, April 3, 7.30pm) at home to Birmingham.
The Tru7 Group Tigers will run as a six-man team against the Brummies after triple World Champion Tai Woffinden was involved in a crash whilst racing in Poland on Sunday.
And whilst ‘Picko’ knows it makes their first task of the year more difficult, he insists they now have yet another reason to go out and do everything they can to try and reclaim their ROWE Motor Oil Premiership crown in 2025.
“When Tai got injured last year, that was a massive loss for us because he’s a big-hitter scoring wise and he’s a big character to have around in the pits,” Pickering.
“He’s also a good, personal friend to quite a few people at Sheffield, including myself, so it has been a really rough few days.
“We all had a great few hours together at the track as a team last Thursday and it was no surprise to me that Woffy was one of the vocal ones telling us all what we could do this year.
“That has stuck in my mind and we now have yet another reason to go out there and give it all we’ve got to try and make Sheffield Tigers league champions again in 2025.
“We’re up against it, especially tonight without him and only having six riders and R/R, but we have to give each and every meeting our full focus and we’ve got a job to do.
“I know we’re going to come together even more as a team, we’ve got a great bunch of boys, and our season starts here.
“Let’s win it for our mate, let’s win it for Woffy!”
Turnstiles open at 6pm with admission on the night £25 adults, £23 concessions (over 65s and students - both with evidence), £5 juniors (aged 12-17), whilst it’s just £1 for all kids aged 11 and under.
Supporters are also reminded that the Carvery Restaurant, Panorama Room and Snack Bar will all be open as usual and a new-look, racenight programme, with extra pages, will be available for £4.
